Ustaad Bhagat Singh’s OTT Announcement
Netflix recently announced the streaming date with a compelling poster. The platform stated, "The name is Bhagat, but his revolution is his identity. Watch Ustaad Bhagat Singh on Netflix, out April 16, in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam."
Box Office Performance
Despite the anticipation, Ustaad Bhagat Singh had a disappointing run at the box office. After 21 days, the film’s net collection in India was Rs 72.13 Cr, with a gross of Rs 84.68 Cr. The overseas market contributed an additional Rs 11.85 Cr. In its final days, the film garnered Rs 15 lakhs on day 21, and Rs 16 lakhs each on days 19 and 20 according to reports from Sacnilk.
Critical Reception of Ustaad Bhagat Singh
Critics and audiences have largely given Ustaad Bhagat Singh negative reviews. Many highlighted that the narrative struggled with cohesion in the second half, and emotional moments often fell flat. The film faced stiff competition from Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which likely impacted its performance.
An ETimes review points out, "The second half continues in a similar vein, with the narrative lacking grip and cohesion. Scenes feel stretched, and the emotional and dramatic beats don’t always hit with the intended impact. The film often feels like it is moving from one ‘hero moment’ to another without building a strong enough story to support them."
Directed by Harish Shankar, the film’s mixed reviews when it premiered are seen as a potential hurdle for its success on OTT. However, many hope that the digital release will attract more viewers to Ustaad Bhagat Singh, allowing them to draw their own conclusions.
