Arrest and Legal Troubles
Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, found themselves embroiled in legal issues when they were arrested by the Rajasthan Police in Mumbai on December 7, 2025. This arrest was linked to a shocking Rs 30 crore cheating case. After facing the ordeal of incarceration, they were granted bail in February 2026.
Life Behind Bars: A Personal Account
Months after his release, Vikram Bhatt opened up about his terrifying experience in custody. On April 14, he shared a heartfelt note on Instagram, detailing a particularly scary health scare he faced during his time at Udaipur Central Jail. As winter set in, Bhatt’s health took a turn for the worse, leading to a frightening encounter with high fever.
The Battle with Illness
About three weeks into his imprisonment, Bhatt awoke one night in Barrack No. 10, gripped by severe fever and uncontrollable shivering. Even with four blankets wrapped around him, the chills persisted. Fellow inmates attempted to assist him by bringing additional blankets, while he took paracetamol in hopes of alleviating his discomfort.
Struggles at the Prison Hospital
Describing his ordeal further, Bhatt recounted his visit to the prison hospital the following morning. To his dismay, there was no thermometer available, and the medical staff only checked his oxygen levels, deeming him "fine." Bhatt expressed his concerns, particularly due to his pre-existing condition, axial spondylarthritis, which made high fevers especially dangerous.
A Desperate Call for Help
After receiving a note from a doctor permitting him to seek actual medical help, Bhatt faced further delays. “First, the police were busy protecting a VIP. Then they were busy managing a tribal fair,” he reflected. With every passing day, his pain intensified, and his nights were haunted by fever.
Taking Control of His Health
Realizing that timely help was not forthcoming, Bhatt decided to take matters into his own hands. He altered his diet, cutting out oil and salt, while ensuring he stayed hydrated. He turned to prayer, sitting before a painting of the Devi in his barrack, pleading, "If you exist… if my prayers to you have ever meant anything… show me a miracle. I don’t want to die here. My children need me. My wife needs me. My 90-year-old father needs me."
A Miraculous Turnaround
Gradually, Bhatt’s health began to improve. His fever subsided, pain lessened, and he slowly regained his strength. Overcome with gratitude one morning, he thanked the Devi for restoring his health, only to wait another fifteen days before police personnel finally arrived to take him to a hospital.
Reflecting on Miracles and Faith
In a conversation with an officer after his recovery, Bhatt asked what the protocol would have been in an emergency. The officer’s casual response indicated they could have taken him to the hospital much earlier, leading Bhatt to contemplate whether divine intervention had played a role in his ordeal. He concluded, “When people say there is no God, I don’t argue. I simply smile. Because some miracles are only visible to the person who needed them.”
Conclusion
Vikram Bhatt’s experience in jail not only highlights the resilience of the human spirit but also underscores the importance of faith during times of distress. His journey through pain and suffering ultimately became a story of hope and survival, reminding us that even in the direst situations, miracles can manifest in unexpected forms.
