Despite giving up alcohol, Kambli occasionally smokes, which physicians warn could heighten his risk of a brain stroke. Renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Aadil Chagla has been overseeing Kambli’s treatment and strongly advises against smoking due to its detrimental effects on his health.

Couto notes that Kambli occasionally encounters offers for cigarettes when he steps outside, with people unaware of his health conditions. "They think they are offering a smoke to a former India cricket star, but smoking is extremely harmful for him, particularly for his brain," Couto stated.
