The Opportunity

Hinge Health is actively seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Growth Data Platform (GDP) pod in Bengaluru. This pivotal role is ideal for a leader eager to transcend traditional software management and guide a team into the transformative realms of AI-Native Engineering and ML-Driven Growth. The GDP pod is the heartbeat of Hinge Health’s growth strategy, overseeing essential data pipelines, event streams, and the innovative "Intelligence Layer" that enhances member interactions—from their first ad exposure to the motivational "Daily Streak" notifications that ensure they remain pain-free.

By 2026, your objective will be to revolutionize the GDP from a mere data mover into a powerful decision engine. You will collaborate closely with our Data Science team to operationalize high-value ML models such as the Direct Mail Propensity Model and Contextual Bandits, which autonomously dictate the channel, content, and timing of our marketing efforts. Additionally, you will spearhead our "Harness Engineering" initiative, evolving your pod’s workflow from manual coding practices to managing autonomous AI agents that build, test, and verify our data infrastructure.

In this role, you will lead a high-performing team in Bengaluru, serving as a strategic link between our San Francisco Product Strategy and technical execution.

Key Responsibilities

Build the "Intelligence Layer"

• Transition from basic data piping to architecting a real-time decisioning layer. This layer will ingest ML signals (such as Churn Risk and Propensity to Convert) and direct them to execution platforms like Iterable.

Operationalize Growth ML Models

• Collaborate with Data Science to move predictive models from the lab into production. You’ll oversee the "Phase 3" lifecycle of the models, ensuring they are hardened, served, and monitored, managing millions of dollars in marketing spend.

Lead the Adoption of Harness Engineering

• Champion AI-native workflows by leveraging tools like Cursor and Claude Code. Shift your team’s focus from simply "typing code" to developing test harnesses, specifications, and safety measures that allow agents to autonomously maintain our pipelines.

Ensure Data Trust and Observability

• Promote a culture of radical observability by implementing automated "data sentinels" and contract tests that identify schema violations and freshness issues before they affect marketing campaigns.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
• 3+ years of experience with data engineering technologies, including distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., PySpark, Databricks) and SQL.
• Familiarity with production data pipelines and a strong understanding of data lifecycle management, including orchestration, monitoring, and operational excellence practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in ML Ops & Model Serving: Understanding the lifecycle of data and models, proficient in technologies like Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Strong leadership in AI-driven initiatives, eager to experiment with new workflows where engineers function as architects of AI-generated code.
• Proven ability in simplifying complex systems, moving from sprawling pipeline patterns to robust standards.
• Commitment to operational excellence, valuing SLOs, runbooks, and incident management as critical components of data-driven decision-making.
• Background in Marketing Technologies (e.g., Iterable, Braze) and Customer Data Platforms (e.g., Segment, Hightouch).
• Experience in implementing Contextual Bandits or similar experimentation frameworks.
• Familiarity with healthcare and HIPAA compliant environments.

Hinge Health Hybrid Work Model

Recognizing the advantages of both remote and in-person work, we follow a hybrid model. Employees in hybrid roles are expected in the office 3 days a week. This Bengaluru-based position requires regular collaboration with colleagues in San Francisco, which is in the Pacific Time Zone, 12 hours and 30 minutes behind India Standard Time.
