“There’s no shame in staying in motion,” he captioned his photo. “The entertainment business has been sooo slow, so I’ve been doing what a lot of people do—showing up, taking the work that’s available, while I continue to build the career I aspire to.”

Pintauro’s current situation reflects a broader trend within the entertainment industry. The slowdown in television and film production, particularly in Los Angeles, has left many seasoned actors in search of work. Pintauro candidly discussed these reality shifts, revealing that returning to acting after a decade-long hiatus is a challenging endeavor.

According to Pintauro, television production in Los Angeles has taken a hit since 2021, with only a fraction of the pilots produced compared to previous decades. He noted that, in the past, there used to be 60 to 100 pilots each season, providing ample audition opportunities. Today, that number has significantly decreased, making it difficult for many actors to find work.

“What actors are feeling now is a tightening of opportunities,” Pintauro said. “As fewer projects get made, the industry becomes more risk-averse, clustering opportunities around familiar names.”

The Truth About Residuals and Financial Stability

Contrary to public perception, Pintauro revealed that the financial benefits from Who’s the Boss? and its reruns are often overstated. He shared that the residuals from sitcoms of that era aren’t as lucrative as many believe.

“I invested a significant portion of my earnings, but I also used a lot of it to fund my education at Stanford and support myself through my early twenties,” Pintauro explained. His transparency about fluctuating fortunes speaks volumes about the reality of life as a former child star.

Today, Pintauro is focused on a diverse range of projects. Besides auditioning, he teaches at Young Actors Theatre Camp, runs his coaching studio, The Resonant Actor, and creates custom book nooks for clients. To supplement his income, he’s also driving for Amazon Flex, emphasizing that there’s absolutely no shame in adapting and hustling while the entertainment industry stabilizes.
