Yograj Singh’s Bold Claims About Arjun Tendulkar

Introduction

In a surprising statement, former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has shared his views on Arjun Tendulkar, the son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Singh believes that Arjun possesses exceptional batting skills that have been overlooked as coaches primarily focus on his bowling.

Arjun Tendulkar: A Hidden Batting Talent

Yograj Singh has expressed concern over the coaching strategies surrounding Arjun. In an interview with Ravish Bisht, he questioned the lack of attention given to Arjun’s batting abilities. Singh stated, “You are focusing only on his bowling. What are you doing? There are so many coaches, what are they doing? He is basically a batter.”

Personal Experience with Arjun

Yograj recounted a personal experience with Arjun, mentioning that during a 12-13 day training period, he encouraged Arjun to focus on his batting. “One day, he was hit by a ball, and we took him to a doctor, and he was fine. So, I told him to put on his pads instead to do some batting,” Singh reflected.

Arjun himself expressed concerns about his batting being neglected, leading Yograj to emphasize his quality as a batter. “He was batting as his father used to,” Singh proudly noted, highlighting the potential he sees in Arjun.

Arjun’s Current Performance

Despite being primarily recognized as a bowling all-rounder in domestic cricket, Arjun’s batting statistics have not been particularly impressive so far. He holds averages of 21.37 in first-class cricket, 18.25 in List A matches, and 13.5 in T20s.

However, he showed promise when he scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut against Rajasthan in 2022 while batting at number seven, along with two half-centuries in red-ball cricket.

Increased Batting Responsibility in Goa

Recently, Arjun has been entrusted with greater responsibilities as a batsman while playing for Goa. He has been asked to open the innings in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In his latest List A match against Mumbai, he scored 24 runs off 27 balls before being dismissed by Shardul Thakur. While his performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was less than stellar—averaging only 14 runs over five innings—his potential continues to draw attention.

Conclusion

Yograj Singh’s insights shed light on the untapped talent within Arjun Tendulkar. With the right focus and support, he may yet develop into a formidable batsman, much like his father. As fans, we can only hope to see more of Arjun’s batting prowess in the future.
