Zarina Wahab on Choosing Telugu Cinema Over Bollywood: Insights from The Raja Saab Promotions

Veteran actor Zarina Wahab, known for her impressive body of work, will soon be featured in the upcoming Telugu film The Raja Saab alongside superstar Prabhas. During the film promotions, Wahab candidly discussed the evolving landscape of Hindi cinema, expressing her thoughts on family-oriented storytelling.

The Decline of Family-Centric Films in Hindi Cinema

While interacting with the press, Zarina made a significant observation: family-driven narratives seem to have vanished from Bollywood. She noted that such themes continue to thrive in South Indian cinema. "Hindi films main family mar gayi hai. There’s no family. Sirf South mai family abhi bhi zinda hai," she stated, highlighting her dedication to working in Telugu films.

The Appeal of South Indian Cinema

Zarina emphasized that South Indian filmmakers still produce films grounded in family values, which resonate well with audiences. "They make such family-oriented films that people love to watch. I am currently working on two to three more Telugu movies," she shared, outlining her commitment to this genre.

Embracing Her Roots: A Telugu Speaker

Zarina also reflected on her background, revealing that she hails from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, a fact not widely known. She expressed her ease with the Telugu language, stating, "I am from Andhra, so I can speak good Telugu, much better than anybody else." This connection to her roots further motivates her to engage with Telugu cinema.

Gratitude Towards Both Industries

While focusing on her love for Telugu films, Zarina made it clear that she appreciates the Hindi film industry for shaping her career over the last four decades. "I am very thankful to the Telugu industry now, and I was very, very thankful to the Hindi industry also," she noted.

Throughout her career, Wahab has appeared in numerous Hindi, Malayalam, and select Telugu films. Her return to Telugu cinema began with the 2020 film Virata Paravam, followed by a significant role in Devara: Part 1 (2024) starring Jr NTR.

Fans can look forward to seeing Zarina in The Raja Saab, set for release on January 9 for Sankranthi. The film also features an impressive cast, including Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, and Riddhi Kumar.
