‘League not recognised’: JKCA after Police have launched an investigation.

Investigation Launched by Jammu and Kashmir Police

NEW DELHI: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have initiated an investigation following the appearance of a Palestinian flag during a local cricket match in Jammu. This incident has resulted in the summoning of a player and the organiser of a privately run tournament for questioning.

    Details of the Cricket Match

The incident occurred on Wednesday during a match between JK11 Kings and Jammu Trailblazers in the Jammu and Kashmir Champions League. Television footage depicted a cricketer batting with a helmet displaying the Palestinian flag, drawing significant attention on social media.

    Officials Respond to the Situation

According to an official statement from the police, “One cricket player and the tournament organiser have been called for questioning regarding the use of the Palestine flag during a match in Jammu.” The cricketer has been identified as Furqan Bhat, with the tournament organiser being Zahid Bhat.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the flag’s display, including whether any permissions were secured and potential violations of tournament guidelines.

Response from Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association

The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has distanced itself from the event, asserting that the league is not recognised by the state authority or any national governing body. Brig Anil Gupta (Retd), a member of the JKCA administration, stated that the player was not registered with the association.

As per BCCI regulations, participation in unrecognised leagues is prohibited for players.

    Wider Implications and Previous Incidents

In light of the situation, police responded quickly after the flag image went viral and have also begun probing the unauthorised tournament itself. This incident marks the second privately organised league from Jammu and Kashmir to face scrutiny in recent months, following issues with the Indian Heaven Premier League in Srinagar.
